Scored on the Constitution

Where Illinois Candidates Stand On The Constitution

Our own honest read — a 1–10 scorecard on the rights that matter most. The Second Amendment first: whether you can still own, carry, build, and buy in Illinois — plus your First, Fourth, and Fifth Amendment freedoms. Federal to local.

These are our opinions, based on the public record — not a paid endorsement and not coordinated with any campaign. Nobody can buy a score. Donation links go straight to each candidate's own campaign.

How We Score Based On Our Second Amendment Rights

Every candidate gets a 1–10 rating on ten Illinois issues that hit gun owners and our industry directly. A higher number means stronger for your rights. The overall grade is the average of the issues we've rated.

1.
PICA — the “Assault Weapons” Ban & Registry
Supports full repeal of the Protect Illinois Communities Act and opposes gun/magazine registration.
2.
FOID Card Repeal
Supports repealing or dismantling the FOID card scheme as an unconstitutional pre-condition on a right.
3.
Red Flag Laws (Firearm Restraining Orders)
Opposes expanding red-flag / FRO seizures and defends due-process protections.
4.
SAFE-T Act & Criminal-Justice Fallout
Backs restoring real consequences for violent and armed offenders.
5.
Concealed & Constitutional Carry
Supports expanding carry rights, shall-issue, and constitutional (permitless) carry.
6.
Magazine Capacity Limits
Opposes magazine-capacity caps and supports repealing existing limits.
7.
Carry Restrictions & “Sensitive Places”
Opposes sprawling gun-free / “sensitive place” zones that gut a carry license.
8.
FFL, Dealer & Manufacturer Regulation
Supports Illinois gun shops, gunsmiths, and manufacturers against licensing, tax, and liability attacks.
9.
Ammunition Taxes & Registration
Opposes ammo taxes, serialization, and point-of-sale registration schemes.
10.
Waiting Periods & Purchase Limits
Opposes waiting periods, one-gun-a-month, and other purchase-throttling mandates.
11.
Free Speech & Anti-Censorship
Defends free political and personal speech; opposes government pressure on platforms to censor lawful speech.
12.
Religious Liberty & Conscience
Protects free exercise of religion and conscience rights against government mandates.
13.
Privacy & Warrantless Surveillance
Opposes warrantless surveillance, mass data collection, and tracking of law-abiding citizens.
14.
Due Process & Civil Asset Forfeiture
Defends due process and property rights; opposes taking property without a criminal conviction.
15.
Constitutional Fidelity & Oath of Office
Treats the Constitution as binding law and votes against measures that plainly exceed it.

More Than One Good Choice?

Some races are fortunate to have two or three strong, pro-industry candidates. When that happens we list them all as vetted champions rather than crowning one — use the Compare tool to put their scorecards side by side and decide for yourself.

This voter guide reflects the opinions of We The Vetted based on candidate meetings and the public record. Scores are our assessment and may be updated as records change. Nothing here is a paid endorsement, a campaign contribution, or coordinated with any candidate or committee. We accept no payment for inclusion; any donation links point to the candidates' own official campaigns. Always confirm your ballot and districts with official Illinois election resources.
